The Caribbean Medical Student Association (CMSA), in collaboration with the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), hosted NYMC’s Student Minority Mixer last week, drawing dozens of underrepresented health professions students, residents, and attendings for an evening of professional networking, cultural exchange, and strategic discussions.
Held on Alumni Lawn, the event featured light refreshments reflecting each organization’s heritage. Caribbean jerk chicken from CMSA, alongside soul food and Latin American favorites, while fostering dialogue on pressing issues facing underrepresented in medicine (UIM) students.
15 specialties were represented with keynote address from 5 speakers. Approximately 50 students attended, exchanging contacts and committing to future collaborations.
As NYMC’s first Caribbean-based student organization, CMSA continues to bridge cultural gaps and amplify minority voices in academic medicine.
