Code of Conduct of Caribbean Medical Student Association, Incorporated (CMSA)
The Caribbean Medical Student Association (CMSA) is committed to fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and professional environment for all members, in alignment with our mission to promote academic excellence, professional development, cultural diversity, and healthcare advocacy for Caribbean communities. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behavior expected from all members and provides guidelines to ensure a respectful and productive organizational culture.
- Members will act with honesty, integrity, and accountability in all CMSA activities.
- Members will uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, both within CMSA and in all academic, clinical, and community settings.
- Members will comply with all applicable institutional, local, state, and federal laws and policies.
- Members will treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and fairness, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or background.
- Discriminatory, harassing, or bullying behavior will not be tolerated.
- Members will support an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
- Members will strive for academic excellence and support the learning and professional growth of fellow members.
- Members will maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information encountered through CMSA activities.
- Members will represent CMSA in a manner that reflects positively on the organization and its mission.
- Members will actively participate in community service, mentorship, and advocacy initiatives, upholding the mission to advance healthcare in Caribbean communities.
- Members will engage with community partners ethically and respectfully, recognizing the impact of their actions on the broader community.
- Members are expected to attend meetings, participate in events, and contribute to the organization’s activities to the best of their ability.
- Members will communicate promptly and professionally with other members and leadership.
- Members will respect the decisions of the Executive Board and abide by CMSA’s constitution, bylaws, and policies.
- Members will use social media and other public platforms responsibly, ensuring that all communications reflect the values and mission of CMSA.
- Confidential or proprietary information about CMSA or its members should not be shared publicly without authorization.
- Members are encouraged to report violations of this Code of Conduct to the Executive Board or physician advisor.
- All reports will be handled confidentially and in accordance with due process and fairness.
- Violations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from CMSA, as determined by the Executive Board.
By participating in CMSA, all members agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive, professional, and inclusive organizational culture.
This Code of Conduct is reviewed annually and may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Board and approval by the membership.
