Our first event was pure fire! A vibrant welcome for NYMC students to discover CMSA, NYMC’s trailblazing Caribbean Medical Student Association, through the universal language of Caribbean cuisine.
Picture this: The air thick with the smoky spice of jerk chicken grilled to perfection, its heat balanced by creamy rice and peas slow-cooked with coconut milk and red peas. Golden fried plantains added that irresistible crunch, sweet, savory, unforgettable. We even offered kosher options, ensuring every student could dig in without missing a beat.
Beyond the plates, it was about connection. Founders shared their vision for CMSA: uplifting Caribbean-identifying health profession students while tackling health disparities back home and in the diaspora. Students mingled, swapped stories of their own journeys, and felt the pulse of island pride right on campus.
One bite led to big laughs, new bonds, and a shared hunger for more. This wasn’t just a tasting, it was CMSA planting roots, one spicy forkful at a time. Stay tuned for round two. 🌴🔥
