The Birth of CMSA at New York Medical College (NYMC)

In the Fall of 2023, six NYMC students came together around a shared vision: create a home on campus where Caribbean identity, culture, and excellence in medicine could stand proudly at the center rather than at the margins. They imagined an organization that would not only support Caribbean students through the challenges of medical training, but also amplify the voices and needs of Caribbean communities in health care.

From that vision, the Caribbean Medical Student Association (CMSA) at New York Medical College was born. As NYMC’s first Caribbean-based student organization, CMSA represents a historic milestone in the life of the College and a powerful statement about who belongs in medicine
